I got to talk to Joshua's doctor yesterday and he said that we are in a waiting period with Joshua. He does have an infection in the blood and their best guess is that it is from the main line in the heart. They will continue the antibiotics and take blood cultures everyday until they see a negative culture; which they are hoping to see in the next few days. If they don't they will have to remove the main line, which they don't really want to do but will not have a choice. It isn't that big of a deal to remove it, but having it gone and not available will mean a lot more tubes for Joshua- Doctor also gave me a time frame of 3 weeks before Joshua will be able to come home :( because they will have to continue antibiotics for 2 weeks after the infection clears up; and we really don't know when it will clear but we are hoping sometime this week.
Also, they explained why his blood platelet count and his belly are acting up is because whenever a baby is sick like this, other things in the body start going wrong. They will test his blood platelet level everyday and if it is low they will have to do an infusion, it is up right now so we need to just pray that it stays up! They said that also because of the infection in Joshua his gut has formed Illus of the intestines, basically it is a spasm of the gut; which explains why he was having so much trouble over the weekend and why he was in so much pain. They are hoping that as the infection is treated by antibiotics his tummy will start feeling better too. Right now they have still kept him off of all feeds :( Poor little guy is starving, he sucks hard on his paci all day long!
We just need to pray that the antibiotics fight the infection ASAP and that everything else will heal itself!!!
We want Joshua home for Christmas SOOOOOOO badly and from the beginning I said, that I was OK with however long he needs to be there, but I want him home for Christmas!! Well, 3 weeks is Christmas Day people & will make it 11 weeks in the hospital for Joshua. So please keep all of us in your prayers, as we are naturally disappointed by this news :(
Also, Please continue to pray for Gavyn as well because his cough is not getting any better and it makes it a lot more difficult because one of us has to stay home with him, and can't both go up to the hospital together. I stayed home last night with him and Michael went and spent the evening with Joshua. The nurse told Michael that 3 different times in the middle of the night Joshua's stats dropped low and he was not happy, so they played the Worship CD Michael made him, and the nurse said all 3 times Joshua immediately stopped crying and his stats went up. She said that it was almost like a total peace came over him!! LOL!! God is Good!!! You see, Joshua is already a testimony of God's strength and peace!!! Praise The Lord!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love you All,
Michael, Selah, Gavyn, & Joshua
